A US Marine sergeant dies in an explosion during a demonstration (related to the signing of a treaty) at the US embassy in the fictional nation of Belgravia (on the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe); the sergeant saves the foreign minister of defense and countless others from injury; the US Secretary of State moves the signing to Washington, DC. The NCIS receives a charge to provide protective security to the minister's daughter, who's a doctoral student in Washington; she tells McGee and Ziva to shove it; her father convinces her otherwise. However, two disguised people kidnap her; the FBI investigates; the gang hold a campfire and take action, then they learn more, then they find even more. The NCIS does not officially investigate the death of the Marine, but Ducky eventually gets the body, then he and Abby provide important clues. Everything works out in an unusual way.
